Helped raise $5,000.00 for the Children’s Auction in the Lakes Region

December 2nd, 2008 by Liam

Went out on Black Friday with the Tilton-Northfield Fire Department crew and in 12 hours we raised $5K via boot drive.  It’s great to see the generosity of people, even in these economically  tough times.  I wish I could thank every person who gave as little as a penny to as much as 50 dollars again and again.  Many thanks to all of you.

For those of you who don’t know about the Children’s Auction.  A yearly event, donations of items and money are given to the organization.  Then (think PBS tele-thon style) an auction is held (viewable on local TV) to raise money.  All proceeds stay in the local area (Lakes Region to be specific).  They go to providing toys, and more importantly food and shelter to needy children.  I’ll be helping set up the auction this Saturday, if you are interested in helping out, get in touch.  Then I’m off on vacation next week.

Cheers!

Now an on-call firefighter for the Tilton-Northfield Fire Department.

November 19th, 2008 by Liam

Good morning all!

So much has been happening lately.  About 2 1/2 months ago I approached the local fire department to be a volunteer for the town.  I had been following up every other week and my persistence paid off.  On Monday I was accepted into the department with on-call status.    Not much more to update at this time, but if something interesting happens, I’ll be sure to let you know!

Cheers,

Liam

Laid off from Shellbook - Ready to pursue new opportunities!

November 19th, 2008 by Liam

Because of an NDA and professional courtesy, I cannot go into details about Shellbook -especially since the company is still operating- but suffice to say this recession/poor economy was a strong factor in the lay-off that the company is now enduring.  I’ve moved my attention over to Earth Protection Systems, LLC-where I was investing part of my time before- and am working as a business consultant for them full-time for the time being.

While nobody looks forward to losing their job or being unemployed,  I am at my core a person of logic, reason, and optimism.  Thus, I’m actually quite excited by the volume of opportunity now in front of me.  I know that I have a very strong skill set, complete with unique work experiences, and coupled with one-on-one real-world tutoring by one of the greatest business minds in the state.  I am looking forward to a competitive job market where I can flex my skills and test myself against other qualified applicants.  I know that when I did the hiring I was looking for the best of the best, so I intend to be the best for my perspective employers as well.

Are you a perspective employer?  If so please take a look at my resume HERE, and give me a call: 603-729-3665, or drop me an email: ljjewell@gmail.com.  I am willing to consider/discuss any job management-related either in business (i.e. COO, CIO, CSM) or in politics (i.e. campaign manager).  I would also be interested in a career as an Executive Assistant to a CEO, or something similar.  As you know from reading my blog, I have a very strong background in both Customer Service and IT as well.  So a job that combines business and IT would be ideal (Such as a chief information officer).  The only thing I ask is that you do not contact me about a sales position.

So all in all I’m very excited about this new direction I’ll be taking in my life!  Wish me the best of luck, I’ll be sure to keep you updated as things progress.

Cheers!

Liam

P.S.  If you want to get in touch with me, I wouldn’t suggest leaving a comment because I get 100+ SPAM comments to my blog a day and you could very well get caught up in my strict filters by accident.

Mount Washington Trip 10-05-2008

October 6th, 2008 by Liam

The trip was simply amazing.  It started out a pleasant 50 degrees at the bottom and was less than half that by the time we reached the summit!  Mount Washington is known for some of the worst weather in the world and boasts the highest peak in New England.  By the time I got to the top, I was trudging through 4 inches of snow and 2 inches of ice.  :D.  Really quite thrilling.

Video excerpts of the trip are available HERE.

Over 100 pictures of the trip are available HERE. (Some really amazing shots)

Slideshow available here.

Busy Weekend Ahead - Mt. Washington and Comic Opera

October 3rd, 2008 by Liam

Heading off to see the comic opera tomorrow night down at UNH, should be a blast, I’ll be sure to let you know how it went! Also heading to Mount Washington first thing Sunday morning (5AM). I’m going up with the PSU Meterology team and since I’m not the team leader, I have no agenda for you :). Suffice to say there will be about 20 of us, so shouldn’t be a big problem. Wish me luck with the weather, It’s already snowed a few times up there, and we’re going to the top!

Looking forward to hiking next weekend with my dad, and my business trip to Chicago the week following. No sleep for the restless ay? :D

Hope you all also have an enjoyable weekend!

What to have prepared if the U.S. economy collapses and you are left to your own devices.

October 3rd, 2008 by Liam

Ever heard of the 5 P’s?  Prior Preparation Prevents Poor Performance.  It’s a sales concept, but one that I apply to my daily routine.  Essentially, the better prepared you are for a situation, the better you will be able to handle it.  Not really a complicated concept, but one that seems to elude people anyway :) .

I was talking with my mother about what I would be doing if the economy collapsed and the entire country went to hell.  I’m not planning on being a doomsday-er, but you can’t say that card isn’t in the deck, because it’s become much more of a likely possibility in the last couple of months.  Between pissing off Russia with their nukes (and the rest of the world for that matter) and the economic collapse that is upon us because of greed on wall street, it seems only prudent to prepare oneself.

There is lots of information out on the web about how to survive a nuclear fallout, flood, hurricane, etc. There is also an abundance of survival information available.  All the information is of varying degrees of usefulness.   The one thing I couldn’t find easily was what sort of food supplies I should keep around the house, in case I had to rough it on my own for up to a year.

The tricky part is being practical.  I refuse to get a bunch of food I wouldn’t eat and would have to throw away after a year.  Additionally, I’d like to make sure that it is affordable and that I can rotate it out with my weekly meals so that it always stays fresh.  So without further ado, my current list for survival in the event the U.S. economy collapsed.  Please feel free to use the comments to make additional suggestions!

Boston Symphony Orchestra 09-27-2008

September 30th, 2008 by Liam

Went to the BSO this last weekend to listen to Brahm’s German Requiem.  It was the first time the BSO had performed the piece in 20 years.  As expected, it was beautiful both to the eyes and ears.  Really a marvelous time and I would suggest it to anyone else to try at least once.  All of the pictures are available on my picasa web album HERE.  A couple of videos of the venue before the performance started are below.  A few selected pictures are below as well.
